REKEYING SMARTKEY LOCKS Follow these simple steps to rekey your Security locks: Step 1: Prepare your door Ensure the lock is properly installed on the door, and the door is fully open. For deadbolts: Make sure it’s in the locked position. For knobs or levers: Make sure they’re in the locked position. Double-check that the door won’t close by itself. If it might, have a backup way to get into your home (like a spare key) to keep away from getting locked out. Step 2: Insert your current key Put the key that currently works with your lock into the keyhole. Turn the key 90 degrees clockwise (to the right) and hold it there. Step 3: Use the SmartKey tool Push the SmartKey tool fully and firmly into the SmartKey hole. You can also feel a small click—this means it’s in place. Pull the SmartKey tool out completely. Cast off your current key from the lock. Step 4: Program the new key Insert your new key all of the way into the lock. The edge of the key will have to touch the indent on the cylinder face. Without pushing or pulling the key, turn it 180 degrees counter-clockwise (to the left, so it’s upside down). Then turn it 180 degrees clockwise (back to its original position). Gently pull the key to check—it will have to not come out at this point. Turn the key 90 degrees counter-clockwise (to the left) to go back it to the starting position. Step 5: Finish up Cast off the new key from the lock. You’ve successfully rekeyed your SmartKey lock!
